The fault seems to be related to an error in loading the firmware dwl-h520 is present in the hotplug firmware folder. This card needs firmware loaded in order to work.
The D-Link card was detected on boot, and the network just connected with no additional actions required. Connection speed average is slow and fluctuates. Without any tweaks, it covers my full house square meters, passing through 2 or 3 brick walls.
According to lshw, the card is still under “DISABLED” and lspci -v shows that it’s under the control of ath5k, so everything looks good in that regard.
